What's the concept behind your painting for CINEQUEST "Experience 21"?
Two ideas I want to convey in my painting are being a Maverick and being the age 21. My painting is a narrative piece that tells of a 21 year old breaking away from the carousel of life that spins on the disco ball of earth. She is determined to find her own path and in doing so her horse sheds it's facade. She reaches for the star, a ticket that carries her through the 21st century. In the stone work are examples of things we might have done at age 21.

Did you enjoy the live painting experience at the festival?
I enjoyed the live painting at Cinequest. From my first greeting to the last, I felt lucky to have spoken with filmmakers and film lovers that stopped and appreciated a different creative medium. We shared are creative experiences, inspiring one another. I especially enjoyed working beside two very funny, kind and talented artists. It made coming in to paint really fun.

Is there a most memorable moment so far?
My most memorable moment is when a little girl, about 4 years old, came and chatted with me. She was inspired to tell me about what she liked to paint. She said she lived in two places and she got to paint in both.

Do you have anything coming up you'd like to let people know about?
I will have my first published drawings in a book called "Experienced: Rock Music Tales of Fact and Fiction". It will be released this month by Vagabondage Press.

VOTE for Sean Sczepanik's Cinequest painting by texting SEANS to 66937

What's the concept behind your painting for CINEQUEST "Experience 21"?
My piece, "Don't gamble it will eat your soul", speaks about the obsession of gambling, and a gambler being unable to escape from this sensory overloaded environment because he or she is mesmerized by the interior of a casino with its flashy lights, colorful carpets and slot machine noises.

Did you enjoy the live painting experience at the festival?
I enjoyed the festival very much. It gave me the opportunity to talk to people about my work and meet new people.

Is there a most memorable moment so far?

VOTE for Steven Sczepanik's Cinequest painting by texting STEVES to 66937

What's the concept behind your painting for CINEQUEST "Experience 21"?
The concept behind my piece is out with the old and in with the new. My main subject is a man with his skin shedding from his face and hands, a transformation. The blue skin represents old dead skin deteriorating and underneath is his new white skin ready to be shown. The birds flying above the man symbolize the age 21 because there are simply 21 birds.

Did you enjoy the live painting experience at the festival?
I enjoyed the painting for Cinequest very much! It has been such a positive experience with several awesome people all over interested in what we have to show.

Is there a most memorable moment so far?
The whole experience will be memorable for me, but if I had to pick one it would be probably be one of the greeters at Camera 12 always having a different wardrobe everyday. Ranging from elaborate kimonos to shimmery suits, I was always wondering what he was going to wear next haha.

Do you have anything coming up you'd like to let people know about?
I would like everyone to be aware of Sean Sczepanik's upcoming solo show on April 1, 2011 titled Broken Gears. The exhibit will take place at D-Structure on Haight and Filmore in San Francisco. He is creating some crazy good work.
