Artists Wanted to Create Art for Neighborhood Utility Boxes

CALL FOR ARTISTS: Local artists wanted for "Art Box San Jose."

The "Art Box Project SJ" was born with six initial neighborhoods wanting to participate by funding the painting and selecting their preferred locations. It's a grass roots effort with a team of interested parties but as little bureaucracy as possible. The goal is to complete the first round of the project in the summer end/fall beginning of this year, and do such a great job that other neighborhoods will begin asking for it, resulting in more art in San Jose and more work for artists - a win all around.

Stipend:
$200 for completion of the project, (50% up front/50% upon completion, artist supply their own paint and prepping the boxes for painting.)

Guidelines: Make it "neighborhood friendly" by using this criteria:
- The artwork enhances the environment and has aesthetic quality
- The piece is dynamic and makes people stop and look
- Content is appropriate for all ages and respectful to all communities
- Artwork content is not political, commercial, or religious.
- Artwork must be original and created by the artist

Artists best adhering to the above criteria will be selected for Round II (submission to neighborhoods who will have the final say in artist selection.)

DEADLINE to submit is Monday, August 8th, 5pm.

Accepted artists will be notified no later than August 26th.

Submissions:
-your name
-3-5 jpgs of your current work that best reflects the style of art you propose to paint on the boxes
-images should be no larger than 720pixels on its longest side @ 72dpi

Please send submissions (or questions) to:

Thank you for your participation!
